Our Mission

Why Banalingam?

Many centuries ago, Adi Shankara walked from Kaladi to Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh to meet his Guru. Now, a sacred Bana Lingam from Omkareshwar will be brought to the Arunachaleshwara Temple in Tiruvannamalai. A Bana Lingam is a powerful Shivalingam personifying Lord Shiva, made from stones found in the Narmada River basin. These stones are believed to have formed 14 million years ago due to a meteorite crashing into the Narmada River Basin, creating a unique crystalline rock with extraordinary energetic qualities.

Bana Lingams contain crypto-crystalline quartz, chalcedony, basalt, and agate. Their unique composition and elliptical shape resonate precisely with human energy centers. Among all stones, Narmada stones are said to have the highest frequency of vibrations. According to the Yoga Sara of Kaula Traditions, Skanda Puranam, and Vayu Puranam, the presence of a Bana Lingam brings harmony, peace, prosperity, and protection. Regular worship of the Lingam can negate accumulated karmic burdens.

The Meru-tantra (6th prakasa) states that Bana Lingam is superior to other lingams made from materials like spatika, gemstones, black granite, and mercury. Simply thinking about a Bana Lingam in the morning is believed to bring success in all endeavors (Yoga-sara, chapter 5). Worshipping a Bana Lingam at Tiruvannamalai Kshetram bestows both Bukthi (material blessings) and Mukthi (spiritual liberation).

At the Tiruvannamalai Ashram, a 22-foot Bana Lingam will be installed, surrounded by 108 smaller (1.5 feet) Shivalingams along a Pradakshina Path (Bana Giri Valam Path). Devotees who perform one Pradakshina (circumambulation) while chanting Shiva Moola Mantras around the Mega Bana Lingam and the 108 smaller Bana Lingams will receive tremendous blessings from Parameshwara, including Shivaanubhuti (spiritual experience) and both material and spiritual benefits.

This historic project on the holy soil of Tiruvannamalai is the first of its kind in South India, and everyone is invited to be part of this significant event.
